Texas

Governor

Governor Greg Abbott (R)

Greg Abbott

Greg Abbott whole-heartedly supports charter schools and raising the cap: “Charter public schools are an integral part of public school choice, injecting competition into the education system and giving parents increased options. Texas must consider how best to encourage the growth of charter schools.” Gov. Abbott has stated that schools choice is important but has not come out in the affirmative or negative on actual voucher programs. Additionally, Gov. Abbott has stated that he believed the most important factor in determining teacher pay is effectiveness in the classroom.
