Kansas

Governor

Governor Sam Brownback (R)

Sam Brownback

Gov. Brownback previously advocated in favor of vouchers and school choice bills and is a proponent of merit pay systems. However, despite the fact that he previously campaigned touting the need to grow charter schools in the state, Gov. Brownback has not rallied behind proposals considered by the legislature this year that would expand the number of authorizers and strengthen Kansas’s charter school law, instead opting for a full-court election-year press on funding for pre-K.
