Governor

Governor Rick Scott (R)

Rick Scott

Republican Gov. Rick Scott is a champion of parent-empowering education reform. In 2016, he signed a massive education bill (HB 7029) into law that allows the state’s public school students to transfer to any public school in surrounding counties provided space is available. Gov. Scott expanded the state’s successful tax credit-based school choice scholarship program and the state’s voucher program for special needs students, and established a limited program of personal education savings accounts. Gov. Scott established annual teacher evaluations (SB 736) that take student achievement into account and initiated some merit-based pay for teachers.
