VEC adheres to three simple premises: that parents bear the primary responsibility for their children's education; that all children are different, and therefore no single educational program or approach is best for all; and that it is the community's responsibility to ensure that access to quality education is available to all households, regardless of income.

To that end, VEC promotes local control of schools, rather than state control, and a recent Vermont State Supreme Court decision -- one that declares unconstitutional funds distribution in the state's public education system -- suggests there may be more room for school choice in the Green Mountain State.
