Charter Schools' Successful Records Speak for Themselves
CER Press Release
Washington, DC
November 14,2003
The Center for Education Reform released “A Record of Success” the latest chapter of Charter Schools Today: Changing the Face of American Education, first released in January 2001. “A Record of Success” documents charter school success in 24 states that offer data where charters have made notable gains, particularly in serving a wide spectrum of students.

Jeanne Allen, president of The Center for Education Reform said, “Data from individual states, reports and evaluations continue to show that charter schools are outpacing non-charter public schools in student achievement, despite fewer resources and mounting obstacles.”

In addition to serving “average” populations, charters are serving exceptionally well children of color, children with special needs and huge numbers of poor children. More importantly, parents of these students report high satisfaction with the education their children are finally receiving.

“Charters are still in their early years but these positive results are the beginnings of successful future trends,” noted Allen.
