State, District and Individual School Report Cards: Many states offer "report cards" on schools' and school districts' performance, although they can often be confusing and difficult to decipher. Private organizations also offer school comparisons and performance evaluations. For families stuck with poorly performing schools, there are also sites that provide information about parents' choices under No Child Left Behind, the federal law that empowers families to find better schools if theirs is failing.
