International Charter School in Rhode Island was named a “Regents Commended” school in recognition of its success in closing achievement gaps among student groups this year.


Hiawatha Leadership Academy serves 310 impoverished, mostly minority children and beats the statewide proficiency average for all grades by 4 percent.


SIATech charter schools, which help dropouts earn a high school diploma, have graduated nearly 10,000 students since their opening in 1998.


Though operating overall at 80 percent of Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools funding, the Sugar Creek Charter School budgets the same per-pupil allocation and produces middle school students who outperform their peers.
